NOTE: departs every day, except Fridays
Day 1: Kayaking
Arrival in San Cristobal. Our staff picks you up and transfers you to the hotel for Check-In.
LUNCH: enjoy fine cuisine in a local oceanfront restaurant
Afternoon activities: Visit of the Interpretation Centre to learn about the natural and human history of the Galapagos Islands. Walk to the beautiful Playa Mann beach to take an easy kayak trip to Tijeretas (Frigate bird) Bay. On the way we might see sea lions, frigate birds, and blue-footed boobies.
Afterwards we will take you back to the hotel
DINNER, overnight on San Cristobal Island
Day 2: Highland Biking Tour
Morning activities: depart around 8 am for the highlands by vehicle.
We will visit the Galapaguera which is a semi-natural preserve for the San Cristobal Giant Tortoise. Next, we will visit the El Junco lagoon. This is one of a very few perennial freshwater bodies found in the Galapagos Islands and the only one on San Cristobal. The lagoon exists within the crater of an extinct volcano.
LUNCH: at a local farm; we will also visit the wind turbines which provide clean and renewable energy to the island.
Afternoon activity: we will take a downhill bike back to port. We’ll stop at the La Loberia beach to swim and snorkel. This beach has easy access to the water where you can try out your snorkel equipment and beginners can receive introductory lessons for open water snorkels we’ll do later in the tour.
DINNER: with a local fisherman’s family; overnight on San Cristobal Island
Day 3: travel to Isabela Island
We’ll take an early flight to Isabela Island. A local guide will take us to the hotel for Check-In.
Morning activities: we’ll begin with an inland exploration of the largest of the Galapagos Islands. We’ll walk through a protected wetlands area (this is a great site for birding!); then, we’ll follow a trail that takes us through small lagoons and mangroves.
LUNCH
Afternoon activities: we’ll take a short boat ride in the bay of the island to the small islet Tintoreras (named for the resident white-tip reef sharks). Here, we’ll snorkel in the bay and then take a short walk across the islet where we’ll be able to spot the white-tip reef sharks, sea lions, marine iguanas, and even the endemic Galapagos Penguin, blue footed boobies, and frigates. DINNER, overnight on Isabela Island
Day 4: Volcano Horse-back ride
After breakfast we head by car to the highlands.
Morning activities: we’ll take an easy horse-back ride along the rim of the Sierra Negra volcano. This active volcano has the second largest crater in the world. During the ride we’ll see active steam vents and impressive older lava flows. We’ll dismount and take a short hike along a trail through ancient volcanic formations
LUNCH: enjoy a boxed lunch in the shade of the jaboncillo tree
We’ll then horse-back ride back along the same route
We’ll return to port, by car, around 3 pm
Afternoon: take the afternoon to rest. You might consider visiting the “Wall of Tears,” the flamingo lagoon, or just relaxing on the beautiful white sand beach.
DINNER, overnight on Isabela Island
Day 5: travel back to mainland
Morning: we’ll take a speedboat to Santa Cruz Island (2.5 hours)
Morning activities: we’ll visit the Charles Darwin Station, have a snack and then take a bus and ferry transfer to Baltra Island for your flight back to the mainland.
