Sharksky is a new and growing tour operator based in the Galapagos Archipelago of Ecuador in South America.
Why are we different from other agencies? Sharksky was created by a Galapagueño (a local, permanent resident of the islands) and its main office is on one of the islands. Because of this, the protection of the islands is an everyday reality; and ethical eco-tourism is not just a term but a need to assure ourselves and our children a future on these Enchanted Islands.
Why are our tours different? Because, apart from the traditional naturalist cruises, we offer alternative tours: land based, island hopping, and adventure tours, which include diving, surfing, kayaking, and more! Local people are involved as much as possible in our operation because we seek to provide them with alternatives to activities which are extractive and harmful to the unique Galapagos ecosystem, such as fishing. By basing our operation locally we hope to put the conservation of the islands back into the hands of the local people thus ensuring a more sustainable development of Galapagos Islands. Currently, tourism is one of the largest sources of revenue within the Galapagos, but most of these economic benefits are retained by agencies based on the mainland.
